Show Us Your Life: Teacher Gifts

Show Us Your Life with Kelly's Korner

This week over at Kelly’s Korner the theme is teacher gift ideas. I am not a teacher and Will is not old enough to have teachers yet but I am related to a ridiculous amount of teachers! My mom, sister and sister-in-laws are all elementary school teachers.

In my opinion, teachers really enjoy “teachery” gifts the first few years of teaching but after that – how many apples can you have sitting around your house and classroom? My mom has taught for almost 30 years and she gives away most of the gifts she receives to us (yay) or when we visit the nursing home.

I think the best kinds of teacher gifts are those they can use! All teachers always need supplies for their classroom – figure out what they need and bring it in or give them a giftcard to a local school/teacher store. Teaching can be a stressful job so it would be great if all the students collaborated and gave their teacher a giftcard to their favorite restaurant or how about one for a massage.

And if you really want to go over the top – here’s an idea. When my sister was student teaching one of the student’s family owned a jewelry store. Oh, yes she got a ring as a gift! If I am remembering correctly it was an emerald ring.

Well, that is just my non-teacher opinion! Mom, Dana, Mandy – what are your favorite kinds of gifts to get?

I would take a giftcard for a massage any day! :)

If I had been a teacher, I would have loved a gift card from any store whether for teaching supplies or for a personal gift! Maybe someone is a good painter and would paint the class room?? Lots of good things!!!

Wow that’s crazy that your sister got a ring as a gift, but I suppose it kind of makes sense if that’s the family’s business! :)

I think you nailed it-my favorite gifts are: giftcards to teacher supply stores, books from my “Classroom Library” wish list, and giftcards to my own favorite stores (Gap, Target, restaurants). Way-2-Go! You’ve obviously been listening. =)

I’m going to sound like a goob, but as a high school teacher, I love it when my students write me letters thanking me for what I do.

But do not get me wrong, I would take a massage or gift certificate too.

New idea: Day off for teacher :)

I have gotten some really nice gifts over the years, many of which I still have. I try to write the name on the gift so that I can remember who gave it to me. Some of the nicer gifts include a framed print, an outfit, teacher dolls, and a framed collector teacher stamp. I have zillion of Christmas ornaments and coffee mugs. And as you said I have given more away than I have kept. Today, my preference is a gift card but I am always grateful.
